Foss can transport virtually any cargo by barge in environmentally sensitive areas as well as in regions with severe weather hazards. Across the ocean, up a river or around the corner, Foss's extensive fleet of tugs and barges are always available to get you where you need to go.
A pioneer in ocean towing to Alaska and the islands of the Pacific, Foss has provided marine transportation services for more than 115 years. Today, the Foss fleet offers point-to-point towing worldwide with some of the most advanced and powerful tugs in the industry. The company boasts flat-deck, multi-purpose and specialized commodity barges, included a large fleet specifically for harbor and coastwise transportation. Foss routinely provides customers with a total logistics package that integrates stevedoring, heavy lift services and interposal linkages.
Ocean Towing
Foss' fleet of high-horsepower ocean towing tugboats supports customers who require regularly scheduled service, one-time towing assignments or specialized tows. With capability for rig towing, ship towing, and rescue towing, Foss offers full-service ocean towing to meet the most challenging marine transportation needs. In addition to regularly towing barges to Alaska and in the Pacific, Foss also operates a rail-car barge service between Mobile, Alabama and Ponce, Puerto Rico.
Harbor & Regional Towing
Foss routinely provides harbor and regional, or coastwise, towing services for general cargo, aggregate, forest products, grain, petroleum, containers, cranes, special projects, and for construction support. The unique ability to use modern tractor tugs in conjunction with conventional tugs and barges provides Foss customers with the highest level of safety and service.
River Towing
Foss has significant towing operations on the 465-mile Columbia/Snake River System in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. With a fleet of tugs and barges, Foss transports general cargo, grain, aggregate, forest products (including logs, chips, and lumber), containers, and special cargo. Highly trained Foss crews work in shallow-draft waterways with changing bathymetry and wind/current conditions, a specialized skill, which also applies to sealifts in remote areas.
