Specialists in project management and global logistics, Foss' Harbor Marine Group focuses on the engineering design, solutions and analysis required for major large-scale transportation projects. This group of experienced and specialized professionals brings together project management, marine engineering, naval architecture and design, and expertise in rigging and fabrication.

In addition to maintaining class and regulatory requirements, the Harbor Marine Group manages new vessel construction and major conversion projects; supports standardization; and develops concept designs for new construction, modernization, and other related functions.

Harbor Marine Group Services

We offer our customers the following types of services:

  • Structural, mechanical, and electrical design for new construction, modification and repair.
  • Vessel hull conceptual design and preliminary line models for a variety of service applications, including: ocean transportation of general cargo; ocean transportation of oil field platforms and modules; ship assist and escort services; anchor handling and rig supply; petroleum transportation to and from marine terminals; and offshore moorings.
  • Stability analyses—damaged and intact, static and dynamic—for a wide variety of hull forms and conditions, including multi-hull vessels, unusual shapes, and multiple-joined vessels such as docking evolutions and heavy lifts (LO/LO).
  • Structural analyses of local and overall hull girder, using all types of materials common to the marine industries.
  • Weight and movement calculations and estimations for micro (pieces of equipment through the macro) and dead weight surveys.
  • Docking calculations, such as acting as docking masters and providing analyses in support of dock certification and design.
  • Surveys and development of plans, technical specifications, time/cost estimates, trade-off and risk analyses

Foss in-house engineers performed the performance engineering and concept designs for the 5,080 HP ASD Dolphin-Class tugs, which are built in Foss’ own shipyard in Rainier, Oregon.
