Our Experience
For the past 18 years, Foss has been a critical link in the transportation and lighterage of ore for the world’s largest zinc mine in Alaska, north of the Arctic Circle. Foss provides the open ocean lighterage of over 1.4 million tons of zinc and lead ore concentrate to support Teck Cominco’s Red Dog Mine. For this project, Foss designed specialized equipment, including two self-unloading barges to transport the ore concentrates from the Red Dog Mine port to ships anchored offshore. With innovative engineering, we have developed the first open-roadstead loading of dry bulk cargo in the world.
Foss also provides barge transportation, dredging support, and lighterage services for aggregate industries. In San Francisco Bay alone, we provide the integral maritime transportation link for approximately 1.7 million tons of aggregate a year.
Whether you need dredge support, barging of aggregate or lighterage solutions, Foss is always ready to help.
